Five questions to ask when reviewing your KiwiSaver

KiwiSaver can become something we set up once and barely think about. Yet jobs change, families grow and long-term plans develop. A periodic review is an opportunity to make sure your choices still reflect what matters to you.

1. What is this money for?

Are you thinking about a first home, retirement, or another eligible purpose? The time until you may need to access the funds can shape the questions worth exploring.

2. Do you understand the level of risk?

Different fund types can have different exposures to market movements. Consider how you might respond to short-term changes and whether your current fund aligns with your goals.

3. What are you paying?

Check the costs shown in your provider information. Fees matter, but they should be considered alongside other characteristics rather than in isolation.

4. Are your contributions still suitable?

Look at your current settings and financial priorities. Rules, contribution rates and eligibility can change, so check current guidance directly with official sources.

5. When will you review again?

A change in your circumstances can be a useful prompt to revisit your decisions. You do not need to make changes simply because markets move.
